Louie Psihoyos to offset carbon costs in the Jama-Coaque Reserve September 2, 2015. Categories: Uncategorized

Third Millennium Alliance is excited to announce that the Oscar-winning director of The Cove, Louie Psihoyos, has decided to offset all of the carbon costs associated with his newest documentary film Racing Extinction in the Jama-Coaque Reserve, Ecuador! Racing Extinction highlights the current global extinction crisis and takes a grassroots approach to raising awareness of the crisis and initiating positive change.

Racing Extinction

In preparation for the release of the film, Louie and his team projected images of some of the world’s most threatened and endangered species on the side of the Empire State building – an event that illustrates the dedication and innovative thinking of their team. The carbon offset provided to the Jama-Coaque Reserve by Racing Extinction was made possible thanks to our partner SavingSpecies, who worked closely with Louie and his team for months to calculate the film’s carbon costs and connect them with the Jama-Coaque Reserve. The funds from Racing Extinction’s carbon offset will go towards our ongoing reforestation and habitat restoration work in the Jama-Coaque Reserve. These efforts are part of a larger ongoing conservation effort aimed at establishing a conservation corridor between the Jama-Coaque Reserve and neighboring reserve Bosque Seco Lalo Loor – a project jointly supported by partners SavingSpecies and IUCN Netherlands. Once the corridor is completed, a total of approximately 1,000 hectares of threatened Equatorial Pacific Forests and the wildlife that call them home will be brought under the protection of Third Millennium Alliance.

We at Third Millennium Alliance are extremely proud to be part of this incredible conservation team and look forward to the many years to come!

Thanks to SavingSpecies and to Louie Psihoyos and his team from Racing Extinction for their support and dedication to global conservation! With your continued support we will be able to increase our conservation impact in the threatened coastal forests of Ecuador.
