* Semester Abroad and Professional Apprenticeship programs require a visa extension, which is acquired in Quito from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At present time the cost for the visa extension is $250, which not included in the internship fees listed above and is paid directly to the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Internship fees cover all food (3 meals/ day plus snacks and drinks) and accommodations (bed with pillow, sheets, and mosquito net) in the Reserve, daily mentoring from our expert staff, local field assistants and kitchen staff, and supports the conservation and sustainable development work TMA carries out in the Jama-Coaque Reserve and the neighboring community of Camarones. All core research equipment used throughout the internships is also included. Our team works extremely hard day in and day out to provide the most educationally valuable and affordable experience for students and young professionals. Discounts are available for groups of 6 or more that apply together and university study abroad programs wishing to visit the Reserve as part of their travel. Please inquire at info@tmalliance.org for more information.
* TMA staff are happy to support students who pursue independent scholarships through their university or elsewhere by writing letters and/ or communicating with university staff and faculty.

Once you have applied and been accepted to our internship program a 50% deposit is required immediately to secure your spot. This deposit confirms your interest in our internship program and helps us organize the size of each intern group prior to arrival. The balance of the total internship fee (i.e. remaining 50%) is due at least two weeks before you arrive in Ecuador.
Payments can be made by check or online with a credit card or Paypal. Once accepted to the program we will send you the address and payment instructions in our welcome aboard email.

International travel costs are not covered in the internship program fees. Round trip flights from the US to Ecuador are usually not expensive – average price range being $450-$800. We highly recommend you apply to our internship programs early in order to allow for adequate time for searching for flights.
Many interns like to travel for a week or a month or a year before or after their internship. Although only the size of Colorado, Ecuador has many exciting adventures to offer the young backpacker. Our staff, who have years of experience working and living in Ecuador, are happy to provide travel suggestions and/ or assist with planning.
Upon arrival to Ecuador you will automatically be given a 90-day tourist visa. This visa is sufficient for our Taste of the Tropics, Academic, and Quarter Abroad internship programs.  An additional 90-180 day visa is required at an additional cost for our Semester Abroad and Professional Apprenticeship programs.
